Letter from Cody: Evangelism – November 2012

A full house at a recent evangelistic meeting

“The present is a time of overwhelming interest to all living. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they recognize that something great and decisive is about to take place—that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis.” Education, 179. As with most prophetic statements, although this was written over one hundred years ago, it seems as if it was penned yesterday. Certainly the entire world has their eyes fixed on events transpiring before us today—from “super storms” to civil wars to terrorist attacks to nuclear programs to economic crises, and the list could go on and on. There is no doubt that we are on the brink of that stupendous crisis foretold in prophecy; we just do not know when the crisis will unfold. What should our attitude and actions be in view of the approaching storm? Humanly speaking, fear and our survival instinct may kick in, but is this God’s plan? As we are surrounded by disasters and tension, our hearts must go out for the billions of unwarned and lost. We must make even greater efforts to share the message for this time with those in need. After the preceding statement, in Review and Herald, November 17, 1910, she continues, “A moment of respite has been graciously given us of God. Every power lent us of Heaven is now to be used in working for those perishing in ignorance. There must be no delay. The truth must be proclaimed in the dark places of the earth. Obstacles must be met and surmounted. A great work is to be done, and to those who know the truth for this time, this work has been entrusted.”

By God’s grace, this is what we are seeking to do. We have just completed a third evangelistic series this year at our local church and are praising the Lord for the opportunity to share the message of truth with those in need. As we begin, there is always the anticipation of what the response will be and how the Lord will work. Once again, the Lord filled the room to overflowing. Some mentioned that they wanted to come to the previous seminars but were unable, so they made sure to come this time. As the messages proceeded and testing truth for this time came into clearer focus, the numbers began to subside, but the Lord continued to bring those seeking for truth. One lady shared how she had just turned to God and was looking for some deep Bible study, and this was just what she was looking for. Others shared how amazed they were to discover that the true Sabbath is on Saturday and how the whole world is being deceived today. One of our new church members shared with me about how thankful she is that the Lord is answering her prayers. Her burden of prayer had been for her family, and she was so thankful that her daughter-in-law began attending and responding to the messages she was hearing. Another miracle of God’s grace was displayed in a young man with whom we had been working for a while, but the Lord has recently given him victory over smoking, and this has led to many other victories in his life. It is truly remarkable to see how God can change us when we surrender fully to Him! We are all very excited to witness his public commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ through baptism shortly. Even though we have held two other series this year, the Lord brought many people who were searching for answers just at this very time. May the Lord help us to be faithful in giving His message through every possible avenue. The Lord has those that are ready to be gathered into His fold, if we will do our part and give His message with power as we stand on the verge of a stupendous crisis!
