Letter from Mike: Honduras – August 2023

“Christ, the heavenly merchantman seeking goodly pearls, saw in lost humanity the pearl of price. In man, defiled and ruined by sin, He saw the possibilities of redemption. Hearts that have been the battleground of the conflict with Satan, and that have been rescued by the power of love, are more precious to the Redeemer than are those who have never fallen.” Christ’s Object Lessons, 118.

The reports from Honduras seemed almost too good to be taken literally, so I was excited to travel there and witness the work firsthand. About a year ago, your donations for Honduras had enabled us to hire Pastor Elmer, and when I met him, I was taken aback by his enthusiasm and overwhelming love for souls. The churches under his care are thriving, and with some clever, unique organization, he has inspired nearly every member to work for the lost!

Pastor Elmer uses the radio to preach the Three Angels’ Messages and find interested souls. He then organizes small group Bible studies in the nine churches he shepherds. Every church has three or more Bible study groups going, each led by a lay member. Using a rotating schedule, Pastor Elmer conducts a mini crusade with the small groups every one to two months, and once a quarter he invites all the churches and small groups to attend a district wide campaign.

Milthon is a small group leader who is becoming a powerful soul winner for the Lord, but he has not always been a Christian. Growing up in a dysfunctional home, Milthon associated with other godless youth in his village, and soon began staying out late drinking and doing drugs. As his mind became addicted to these substances, he became like a wreck on a distant island, drifting downward to destruction. Yet, Christ saw in Milthon a pearl of great price worth rescuing!

Through his mother’s persevering prayers, Milthon was touched when someone invited him to attend church. At church, the greeter directed him to the youth Sabbath School, and all the young people welcomed him without condemnation. As he listened to the teacher present the truth, he heard the Holy Spirit speaking to his heart, saying “This is the way, walk in it.” During the church service Milthon was so touched by a special music sung by one of the youth that he decided right then to give his heart to the Lord. When he later attended an evangelistic campaign, he saw his life’s calling!

Today Milthon is a lay evangelist in the district of Jocon, bringing many to Jesus’ feet. Please pray for Milthon’s evangelistic work and for the churches that are being impacted by his and Pastor Elmer’s labors. Please consider propelling the work of saving souls forward in Honduras by marking your donation “Honduras Evangelism” or “Honduras Radio.”

Yours in rescuing the goodly pearls!
