Project Update: Uganda – September 2025
“God’s great object in the working out of His providences is to try men, to give them opportunity to develop character. Thus He proves whether they are obedient or disobedient to His commands. Good works do not purchase the love of God, but they reveal that we possess that love. If we surrender the will to God, we shall not work in order to earn God’s love. His love as a free gift will be received into the soul, and from love to Him we shall delight to obey His commandments.” Christ’s Object Lessons, 283.
Blazio was raised in the town of Karingoma, Uganda. His parents brought him up in the Roman Catholic faith, but he never developed a personal relationship with God. He went to church because his parents told him he had to go. For him, everything in religion was centered on traditions and ceremonies—without a true love connection with the God of Heaven.
As a teenager, Blazio developed a deep passion for soccer. He played during school hours, and after school he gathered friends for more games. Inspired by professional superstars, he dreamed of joining their ranks, but he didn’t understand the discipline such success required. Soon, he began betting on soccer matches. After losing much of his money, he turned to whatever work he could find just to keep gambling.
By his early twenties, Blazio had squandered all his earnings. In desperation, he sold his goats and chickens, but those funds also disappeared into gambling. Finally, he sold his little piece of land, only to lose those proceeds as well. Next he began borrowing money from family members and anyone who would loan to him. With mounting debts and no way to pay, Blazio fell into hopelessness and overwhelming guilt.
In deep depression, Blazio decided to end his life. With determination he went to the nearest hardware store and purchased a new rope. Marching into the nearest forest, he found a tree that would hold his weight. Just as he secured the rope around his neck, he heard someone approaching, humming a tune.
That same day, Daniel, an MPI Bible worker, prayed earnestly that God would lead him to someone in need of the gospel. A newly planted church in Karingoma required wood for their building, so Daniel went into the forest to find trees suitable for the project. As he walked, he heard faint mumbling and decided to investigate. There, he discovered Blazio preparing to end his life. Lifting a silent prayer for wisdom, Daniel quickly intervened.
By God’s providence, Daniel’s timely action saved Blazio from destruction. The two became close friends, and Daniel introduced him to Jesus—the only One who can untangle life’s perplexing problems and bring true hope. Please look for the full story in Mission Projects, the MPI magazine!
