A Powerful Harvest

When a Pentecostal pastor learns Bible truth, the results are extraordinary.

Under Uganda Union Mission Impact 2024, several Seventh-day Adventist church districts joined efforts to reach southwestern and midwestern Uganda. They sponsored an evangelistic broadcast on a secular—and popular—radio station. One of the radio’s prominent listeners, Pastor Tukundane Francis, and his wife, Ainembabazi Loyce, tuned in to the seminars and became eager listeners. Intrigued by the amazing content, Pastor Francis invited twenty of his Pentecostal church members to listen in as well.

Pastor Francis and his wife marveled at the Bible truth they had never heard before, especially the Sabbath and the reality of the great controversy. Francis decided to be baptized, but he feared disclosing this to his wife. Ironically, Loyce had the same conviction but feared revealing it to Francis! Apprehension was paramount in their minds. What would their new convictions cost? How could they leave their congregation of many members whose tithes and offerings had become their source of financial survival?

Then a Pentecostal church member visited them. He had been listening to the radio broadcast; he wanted to be baptized as a Seventh-day Adventist! Pastor Francis and his wife sighed with relief. They confessed that they wanted to join Christ’s remnant church, too.

“Let us visit the rest of the members,” their visitor suggested. “We will tell them of our decision and encourage them to join us.” After visiting the homes of all in their congregation, they were shocked to learn that twelve of their twenty members were ready to be baptized! The following evening, Pastor Francis called the radio and informed the preachers that he wanted to join the Seventh-day Adventist Church, along with his wife and twelve of their church members.

Ultimately, over 6,000 people gathered at the Kamwenge Seventh-day Adventist church to witness the baptism of 250 people. Pastor Francis and over half of his congregation were among those baptized, and the ceremony was graced by the presence of many religious and local government leaders.

This is not the first time that evangelism through secular radio has resulted in a powerful harvest of souls. The radio is a powerful instrument for evangelism—it reaches people where traditional methods often cannot. Because of this, AWR 104.2 Messenger FM sees a great opportunity.
