A motorcycle accident changes the trajectory of a young man’s life.

Jonathan and Erika are a young married couple living in the municipality of Unión Valle. Today, they live abundantly in Christ, but life did not always look so bright. Erika, born and raised a Catholic, believed everything was fine when she chose to enter a free union relationship with Jonathan eight years ago. On the other hand, Jonathan knew the gospel and understood the Sabbath truth from a very young age. His mother, Argenis, had guided him along the beautiful path of salvation. However, Jonathan later drifted away from God and from the church. Many years passed while Sister Argenis prayed constantly for her son.

A few months after Jonathan and Erika moved in together, the couple faced an unexpected trial: Jonathan was riding a motorcycle over the town’s main road when he collided with a cyclist. Jonathan suffered the most injury and arrived at the hospital with both arms fractured, one elbow completely shattered and the front part of his jaw injured. His situation looked grim. By the grace of God, he stabilized and recovered, but it took many months of surgeries and therapy before he saw much improvement.

It would have been easy for Erika to walk away. Nothing legally bound her to Jonathan, and now he could not work. Yet, she chose to stay. She remained at his side through one of the hardest times of his life. And in the days of his recovery, Jonathan realized that God was by his side, too.

In 2023, a group of Seventh-day Adventist believers in Toro decided to reopen the work in Unión. They rented a house where they met every Sabbath. As the weeks went by, the space became too small, and by the end of March 2025, they decided to rent a larger building.

The new meeting place was very close to where Jonathan and Erika lived. Our small church group, with new leadership and strong pastoral support, held its first evangelistic campaign. Jonathan and Erika attended every night and listened attentively to the truths that challenged them. Clearly, Sister Argenis’s prayers were bearing fruit!

During that week, Jonathan and Erika decided to give their lives to Jesus. But one issue remained—they were not married. Pastor Germán Gil started Bible studies and marriage counseling with them. During one of their meetings, the couple expressed their desire to marry and agreed to hold a wedding ceremony and to be baptized together.

Jonathan and Erika were baptized along with three other people—first fruits of the evangelism effort. They were married in our beloved church by Pastor Gil in a simple yet beautiful service that blessed the congregation. Today, this young couple continues growing in their spiritual walk, thanks to a mother’s prayers and God’s providence through adversity.
