When Truth Interrupted Tradition
A radio station answers Bible questions and changes a life.
Christmas has always been special to me. For six decades, I celebrated it with the firm belief that December 25 marked the birth of Jesus Christ. Occasionally, though, the thought crossed my mind: Why do we believe this, and yet it isn’t anywhere in the Bible?
One day as I tuned the radio, a preacher’s voice caught my attention. He was calmly explaining—using only the Bible—why Jesus could not have been born in December. My heart began to race. I wanted to write everything down, but when I searched my handbag, there was no pen, no paper.
Panic set in. The message will end, I told myself. And it will be gone forever!
Suddenly, I remembered my phone. I reached for it and pressed the record button, just in time.
As I listened and then re-listened, I was stunned by the clarity of Scripture. The preacher explained that shepherds were watching their flocks at night—something that would not happen during a cold December in the Middle East. He also explained that even those closest to the event did not know the exact date of Jesus’ birth. King Herod himself failed to determine it, which led to the tragic decree to kill children two years old and under.
It all made sense, and it unsettled me deeply. Night after night, I tuned in to the same radio station. The preacher began a Bible series, and I listened to every episode. I heard teachings about the Sabbath, baptism, the state of the dead,
spiritualism, the church and
Jesus’ soon return.
I could hardly believe the things I was hearing. He must be reading a different Bible, I thought.
I decided to visit my church catechist to verify if the same verses were in the same Bible he read to us during worship. I wrote down every Bible verse from the recordings and brought them to his home. For over an hour, I looked through his Bible, crosschecking each verse. Every one was there.
I walked home in silence, my heart heavy. I wasn’t angry at the truth—I was grieving the years I had spent in ignorance. Questions flooded my mind. What about my loved ones who had already died? What would my relatives say if I changed my faith and joined a different church? Was I ready to give up everything I had known for sixty years?

After much prayer, my decision became clear. I would surrender to Jesus and His Word. I felt the power of the gospel begin to take root in my life. I fasted and prayed for two days, asking God to forgive my past ignorance and to cleanse my heart. Soon after, I met with a pastor from the nearest Seventh-day Adventist church and began Bible studies. With each lesson, my conviction grew stronger. When the studies were complete, I chose to be baptized, just as my Savior was.
Today, I thank God for AWR 102.9 Light FM, the instrument He used to reach me. I was baptized alongside seven others, and I now rejoice as a member of God’s remnant church. I am committed to sharing this truth with my friends and pointing them to the same radio station that changed my life.
