When God Finds You
A despondent housewife receives a message of hope over radio waves.
Damaris was very depressed. In fact, she was standing in her kitchen, thinking about ending her life. On a whim, she searched her radio for something to listen to—and that was when she found the Adventist Radio station of Nicaragua 92.7 FM. At that moment, the station was airing “The Sermon of the Moment,” a program featuring positive, motivational messages of a spiritual nature. That morning’s topic was the prodigal son, and it caught her attention. Her thirteen-year-old son, Yasser, wandered into the kitchen and paused to listen, too. They both enjoyed the beautiful message that suddenly filled their lives with love and hope!
The next day, Damaris told Yasser that she wanted to call the radio station to find out which church it was affiliated with. When she called the radio station, she found out that it was managed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. She immediately asked if there was an Adventist church in her community.
She learned that near her home a small group of believers was holding an evangelistic series. Damaris and Yasser attended together, and it did not take long for Yasser to make a decision—on the third day of the conference, he decided to surrender his life to the Lord through baptism.

Although Damaris was not so quick to commit, she invited her daughter, Yaritza, to accompany them to church each week. Yaritza was reluctant; she wasn’t convinced that this faith was for her. But over time, she decided to join God’s remnant people.
Damaris accompanied her children to church, but something held her back from baptism—she was not married to her partner, Yaritza’s and Yasser’s father. However, after two years of connection with the church, she and her partner were married, and then baptized together.
The seeds of faith planted in the hearts of Damaris and her family brought them strength and comfort in the face of adversity. Shortly after the baptism, Damaris’s husband passed away in the blessed hope of the resurrection. Despite constant struggles and trials, Damaris and her family remain steadfast in their faith today. Yaritza and Yasser are church leaders and encourage others to trust in God and in the power of His Word. These young people thank God for the radio’s ministry, as it reached their childhood home in a precise moment of need to deliver hope and comfort to a mother’s heart.
