Project Update: Peru – June 2025

I have just returned from an exploratory trip to Peru to meet Pastor Eben Espinosa of Peru Projects and see how Mission Projects International can partner with his work. Pastor Eben, a dedicated missionary pilot, has spent years flying into the remote jungles of the Amazon basin, extracting people in medical emergencies and providing hope where it’s needed most.

His ministry focuses on training lay church members in medical missionary work, equipping them to assist with people’s health needs. In addition, students at his training school learn how to give Bible studies and lead others to Christ. These volunteers are then sent into the remote villages along the Amazon’s vast network of rivers, where they strengthen existing churches and reach out to families who have not yet heard the gospel. They serve as missionaries for an entire year, teaching the Three Angels’ Messages.

During my trip, Pastor Eben and I visited the village of Isletas, which had recently endured a severe flood. For more than two months, four feet of fast-moving river water raged through the village. Though the huts were built on stilts, many of them still had muddy water flowing through the first floors. To survive, families laid boards across makeshift rafters inside their homes to create dry sleeping areas. Garden plots—once filled with fruits and vegetables grown through backbreaking labor—were now buried under silt and driftwood. Banana trees, a key food source, had been destroyed by the floodwaters.

Visiting the church members in Isletas was a top priority for Pastor Eben—but we didn’t want to arrive empty-handed. Purchasing rice and other non-perishable foods, we made our way to the port to catch a boat. After five hours on the river, we docked in Isletas, where many families joyfully greeted us. Despite their recent hardships, the villagers radiated faith and joy. Worshiping with them on Sabbath truly blessed me, especially as I saw the youth lead out in song service and actively participate in worship. God really is preparing young people to take part in the closing work of Earth’s history.

The church in Isletas is just one of 82 churches Pastor Eben oversees. With such a large territory and only a handful of volunteer missionaries, the need for full-time Bible workers is urgent. Trained, dedicated workers can encourage struggling congregations and nurture strong leaders in isolated areas.

Our joint vision with Peru Projects is to see spiritually strong, committed Bible workers serving the many villages along the rivers of the Amazon basin. For just $400 a month, we can support one of these faithful laborers. Each worker would minister to several churches reachable only by boat, bringing the gospel to the remotest corners of the jungle.

Having seen the work firsthand, I’m deeply convicted that there are still many who have not heard the good news of Christ’s soon return. The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Willing workers stand by—ready to be sent into the field.

Please pray for the gospel work in the hard-to-reach regions of Peru. If you feel impressed to support this important mission, kindly mark your gift: “Peru Evangelism.”

Yours in reaching the unreached!
