My Journey Home, Part 2

A weary mother finally heeds the call to return to God.

One day, my second-born son, Eduardo, received an invitation to a “Try Jesus” evangelistic campaign. While he was not raised to be a Christian, he attended the entire event. He entered our house one day, singing the theme song: “If your life ends up destroyed, try with Jesus…” He turned to face me and said, “I’m going to try with Jesus. Why don’t you?”

I began to cry as he continued: “Mommy, I already decided for Jesus. I’m going to be baptized.”

I attended the baptism with hesitation, and I made no decision to return to church. I felt caught between a battle between good and evil for my soul.

Three years later, I received a call from an old family friend. This friend had always served Satan, but to my great surprise, he now followed Jesus.

“How is your relationship with God?” he asked me.

“It is very sad, friend,” I answered. “I’m on the ground… I don’t have the strength to get up.”

“With the help of God, you will get up,” he told me. “I will not stop praying until I see you being transformed by the power of God.”

One day, while I was looking through a radio station app, I found Nuevo Tiempo Honduras. I listened while I worked, and that Sunday the radio happened to be broadcasting, “The Race of the Centuries.” Feeling curious, I decided to attend the in-person meetings. I listened as the pastor talked about two teams, one of light and the other of darkness. These two teams each fight to win, but Christ’s team is victorious. Those words fortified my heart; they gave me strength and hope. I felt that God was calling me back to His house of worship once again. And this time, my resolve strengthened to do His will.

I joined a women’s prayer group, and the Holy Spirit began to work in my heart. I felt the need to be baptized. The power of Jesus was restoring and healing my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual life.

Finally, after many calls from God, the day of my baptism arrived. When I approached the baptismal waters, I felt a weakness overwhelm my body so that I had no strength in my legs to walk. I felt paralyzed by the enemy. He did not want to free me, but the power of God helped me: His power perfects weakness.

I was the prodigal coming back to the Father’s house. Once, I had been a slave to sin, but now Christ has given me power to break the prison chains of sinful desires and to return to a place of honor in His house of prayer. Praise His holy name!
