God Cares
In her pain and need, Patricia learns to trust God and rely on His Word.
Patricia sat in her chair, sobbing. Already she had been dealing with multiple health problems, and now this urinary issue had her bent over in pain. In her distress, she called out to God. “Please, give me relief from the pain,” she cried, “and help me know what to do about all these physical ailments.”
In God’s providence, Sister Cumandá, a Bible worker supported by Mission Projects International, came to visit Patricia that day. Patricia had attended the health outreach program that Dr. Gaby and Fernando had conducted in her village of Gualchan, and since she had filled out a card with her address, Sister Cumandá decided to visit her home.
“You are an answer to my prayer!” Patricia told Cumandá as she invited her in.

Patricia is a calm, simple, good-spirited person. Whenever we visit, she welcomes us, and whenever possible, we have helped her with her needs. Sometimes those needs have been financial, such as the time God provided $500 to keep her sister’s house out of foreclosure. As Patricia has seen God’s hand providing for her, her interest in Bible study has increased. “Seeing God provide has taught me to trust Him more,” she tells us. “Since I met you, He has been at work in my life in a more real way. I have seen how God cares for each of His children.”
One of her favorite Bible promises now is Matthew 6:26–30: “Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? . . . If God so clothes the grass of the field, . . . will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
Today, Patricia welcomes every chance to study the Bible with us. We are studying Bible doctrines as well as biblical health studies with her, preparing Patricia to make the ultimate decision of her life: baptism. “God has been merciful and good in presenting His Word to me in a broader way,” she says. “I am happy to be learning more about the Bible.”
One of Patricia’s family members has a severe visual and mental disability and needs care, which makes it difficult for Patricia to leave Gualchan to attend church in another town. By God’s providence and with the help of Mission Projects International, we plan to establish a Seventh-day Adventist church in Gualchan. This church will be a great help to people like Patricia who find it difficult to leave their community but do want to attend church and praise our God on His holy day. By building a church, we can honor the Sabbath in this community and bring the knowledge of God’s true day of worship to more people.
Please pray for the work in Gualchan, Ecuador. Patricia is just one of many individuals whom we have been studying with and ministering to through their health challenges. More than 25 regular attendees and many visitors now worship with us in Gualchan every Sabbath. Many more in this area are living in darkness and need God’s light. We covet your prayers for this community!
