Letter from Mike: Ecuador – January 2025

Our world is deteriorating rapidly under the curse of sin. Deep darkness is settling over Earth’s inhabitants, and spiritual apathy grips the churches. Yet, God gives us hope through His promise in Isaiah 60:1, 2 (NKJV): “Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.”
God is calling His church to stand up and shine, spreading the message of truth into the darkness. In Ecuador, Dr. Gaby and Fernando are using the health message as an entering wedge to share the everlasting gospel. Their “Health Brigades” have gained recognition in communities all across their country. Powered by MPI-sponsored Bible workers, these health crusades combine practical education about healthy living with opportunities to share God’s love. Many individuals burdened by poor health choices are finding hope and better health through these efforts. As they learn practical ways to change their habits and lifestyle, they also come to understand that their lives are precious, that their bodies are temples for Christ to dwell in and that any departure from the right way brings sadness and difficulty.
Because of a recent Health Brigade in Ibarra, Fernando is now studying the Bible with about 20 individuals. These seekers are hungry for solid Biblical teaching. The superstitions and traditions of their Catholic upbringing have not satisfied the deep hunger of their souls. As Fernando shares the promises of God’s Word, his Bible students leave the studies spiritually renewed.
One remarkable story is that of Brother Manuel, a precious soul learning about God’s last warning message to the world. Manuel attended a Health Brigade in Gaulchan, seeking solutions for his health challenges. When a Bible worker offered to pray with him, it opened the door to share Biblical truths. As Manuel began Bible studies at home, he encountered the Sabbath truth for the first time. Intrigued, he started attending Sabbath services, though not without resistance—Manuel’s wife and family launched a campaign to dissuade him from these new ideas. God worked powerfully, however. Manuel’s wife stopped fighting and joined the Bible studies! Now Fernando is studying with the entire family, helping them see the truth from God’s Word.
