Without Delay
A young man cannot rest until he is baptized.
Daipson was so eager to be baptized that he would not listen to my reasoning. He had studied some of the foundational doctrines of the church, but not all of them. Now, at our mid-year camp meeting, he decided that he wanted to be baptized. I encouraged him not to rush into such an important decision and explained that he should know what Jesus taught first and begin practicing those teachings.
“I will learn all that is needed to be learned after my baptism,” Daipson responded. “I feel unsafe if I am not baptized.”
I urged him to wait until he knew more about the church he was being baptized into, but he would hear none of it: he desperately wanted to be buried under the water so that he could follow Jesus’ example. “I have never heard such blessed messages in other churches,” he said. “My understanding of the Bible is now so clear. In every sermon presentation, I meet my Savior and I feel like He talks to me personally. I find hope, peace, and assurance in Him. My selfishness and unrighteousness have come to light, and I feel the need to come to Jesus for forgiveness. The time of God’s calling in my life has come, and I must not fight against the Holy Spirit.” This young man had decided to follow Jesus and become His disciple, whatever the cost.
Our argument ended in favor of him of him being immersed. I finally realized that the Holy Spirit was impressing him to give his life to Jesus and I could not stop him.
While many today are making the mistake of postponing their commitment to God’s merciful calling in their lives, Daipson did not delay. After the baptism, he told me the Lord impressed him to baptized because he believed that the Seventh-day Adventist church is the true church of God, the remnant of Revelation 12:17.
Daipson now brings his young family to the Adventist church each week, and I know that heaven rejoices along with me each Sabbath. May our mighty God—Who knows the end from the beginning—lead him as a good shepherd into the unknown future. How wonderful is our Lord! He leads us beside still waters and plants our feet on high places! May we all unite our prayers for Daipson in his new beginning with Jesus.
