Life-Changing Power
A family receives the joy and hope of Christ from a Bible worker’s studies.
Joel grew up in a non-Christian home where the attitude toward Christianity was extremely negative. His family loved and practiced their traditional African religion, and followed the ways of the ancestors. Because of these influences, Joel was obstructed from observing Christianity during his younger years. The only time he ever got close to it was during religious studies in primary school. But he believed that Christianity was not for Africans. He was satisfied with his ideal African lifestyle.
Joel married a Christian woman. She introduced him to her beliefs, but he was reluctant to follow them. As a result, his wife eventually backslid from her Christian beliefs and they both fell into a sense of despair and hopelessness.
One day, a lay Seventh-day Adventist Bible worker was doing house-to-house Bible studies in their village and arrived at Joel’s door. The family welcomed the Bible worker and proceeded to invite him back several more times for additional Bible studies. Joel and his family began to be filled with joy and hope—the Adventist teachings gave them a sense of purpose and meaning, and they also appreciated the focus on health and wellness. They soon decided to follow Christ and start attending the Seventh-day Adventist church.
Joel began studying the Bible with other Adventist church members. During these Bible studies, he clearly saw the special message of God’s Sabbath and how it can be kept holy. Joel began to reschedule his work and other events to happen outside of the Sabbath day. The whole family adjusted to honoring the Sabbath as their day of worship.
One of the things that drew Joel and his family to the Adventist church was the emphasis on community and fellowship. He had always felt like an outsider in other groups and had struggled to find a sense of belonging. However, he found that the Adventist community was welcoming and supportive, and he quickly made friends within the church. He and his family enjoyed the warm fellowship in their newfound community.
Joel’s conversion to the message of the Seventh-day Adventist church was not without its setbacks. Friends who did not understand his newfound faith were skeptical and critical. He was ridiculed for joining a church that didn’t believe like other churches. However, Joel remained steadfast in his new beliefs and continued to attend church and study the Bible.
As he grew in his faith, Joel began to feel a sense of peace and contentment that he had never experienced before. He was able to let go of past struggles and find a sense of hope and purpose in his life. Joel and his wife asked to start preparing for baptism so that they could join God’s remnant church.
Joel’s conversion to Christ is a powerful example of the life-changing power of faith. His story is also a testimony to the importance of lay Bible workers, and the impact that one person can make through their faith and commitment. Many souls are thirsty like Joel and his family—waiting for their doors to be knocked on by soulwinners with the message of hope!
