No Earthly Support

A time is coming when the faithful will be cut off from every earthly support—when their closest companions will not be available to lean on. They will be faced with unimaginable prevarications. Sudden, unexpected events will test their fidelity to God and His truth. Falsehood will be couched in logical, persuasive arguments calculated to cause doubt in the promises of the Scriptures.

How shall the saints of God prepare for such an emergency? “The track of truth lies close beside the track of error, and both tracks may seem to be one to minds which are not worked by the Holy Spirit, and which, therefore, are not quick to discern the difference between truth and error.” Selected Messages, vol. 1, 202. By the Holy Spirit’s working, our minds become fortified in the Scriptures. Our minds can be fortresses of truth, barricaded against errors and arguments, because the Holy Spirit has etched the truth so deeply that nothing can erase that impression.

“Then take your Bible and present yourself before your heavenly Father, saying, ‘Enlighten me; teach me what is truth.’ The Lord will regard your prayer, and the Holy Spirit will impress the truth upon your soul. In searching the Scriptures for yourself, you will become established in the faith. It is of the greatest importance that you continually search the Scriptures, storing the mind with the truths of God. You may be separated from the companionship of Christians, and placed where you will not have the privilege of meeting with the children of God. You need the treasures of God’s Word hidden in your heart, that when opposition comes upon you, you may bring everything to the test of the Scriptures.” Ye Shall Receive Power, 113.

Let us each plead before God for the Holy Spirit to enlighten us and impress precious truth on our minds!
