Letter from Mike: Ecuador – July 2021

“To everyone who becomes a partaker of His grace, the Lord appoints a work for others. Individually we are to stand in our lot and place, saying, ‘Here I am; send me.’ Upon the minister of the word, the missionary nurse, the Christian physician, the individual Christian, whether he be merchant or farmer, professional man or mechanic,—the responsibility rests upon all. It is our work to reveal to men the gospel of their salvation. Every enterprise in which we engage should be a means to this end.” Ministry of Healing, 148.

This month I had the blessing of visiting Ecuador! From a thriving church whose ultimate desire is to reach souls with the gospel, to the many dedicated people I met, there are many stories I could tell. However, one married couple in particular caught my attention.

Fernando, an engineer, and Gaby, a dentist, had a comfortable life in the city. Then they heard the Holy Spirit’s call to leave their comforts behind and go and win souls. Moving to the country, they began ministering to those who need dental care. Many of these people cannot afford care at a regular dentist’s office, but Fernando and Gaby turn no one away. They often use their own savings to buy supplies for their clinic so that they can keep helping patients. For each person who comes seeking help, this committed couple ministers not only to their physical needs but to their spiritual needs as well.

While visiting a patient in a remote village, Fernando and Gaby got the idea to set up a mobile clinic. They decided to move forward by faith, once again using their savings to purchase some of the needed equipment. To make the most of their ministry, they are looking for an experienced Bible worker to join their team. Gaby and Fernando will introduce patients to the Lord by praying with them and talking about the Bible while they do their work. Then, when their patients’ dental work is finished, the Bible worker will keep in contact with the patients, ministering to their spiritual needs.

Gaby and Fernando’s vision is to enter all the surrounding towns with their mobile clinic, introducing the people to the Three Angels’ Messages while they work on their teeth. The Bible worker would then follow up by going door to door with literature and helping people with their emotional and physical needs. Ultimately, the goal is to plant churches in the towns that are too far away from the nearest church for the people to attend.

In order to get their mobile clinic up and running, Fernando and Gaby desperately need a van to carry all their equipment and supplies from place to place. They also need an outside tent to do their dental work in and a generator to supply power for their dental tools. And of course, they need funds to hire a Bible worker! Yours in penetrating into the kingdom of darkness!
