Letter from Cody: Malaysia – July 2012

Chinese participants singing a special song in Chinese

One of the grandest declarations of Scripture is found in Isaiah 45:22, “Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: For I am God, and there is none else.” The gracious invitation of our Lord is to look unto Him and as we look intently, steadfastly, continually to Him from whom our help comes (Psalm 121:1, 2), we will find salvation. How much more time we need to spend thinking, studying, meditating on the life of our Savior—looking to our God. “So you are not to look to yourself, not to let the mind dwell upon self, but look to Christ. Let the mind dwell upon His love, upon the beauty, the perfection of His character. Christ in His self-denial, Christ in His humiliation, Christ in His purity and holiness, Christ in His matchless love—this is the subject for the soul’s contemplation. It is by loving Him, copying Him, depending wholly upon Him, that you are to be transformed into His likeness.” Steps to Christ, 70, 71. Are we spending time every day looking to Him? Not just reading our Bible and praying (as essential as it is), but learning from the One who means everything to us—studying His life and character. As I read these lines, I want to spend more time looking and learning of Him who is altogether lovely. (Song of Solomon 5:16)

Praying together during the Sabah Youth for Christ

Last month was a busy, but blessed month as we sought to point young and old to look more fully upon our Savior’s matchless character. In addition to being able to point men and women to our Savior, it was such a blessing to see the work that our brethren are doing around the world. In the beginning of the month, I was in Malaysia for a couple weeks at two different youth meetings. At the first youth meeting held on peninsular Malaysia, around two hundred youth and older youth gathered together from Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore and other localities to study the theme of “That I May Know Him” (Philippians 3:10). What a blessing it was to be able to share with the eager young people and to learn of the work that the Lord has committed to their hands! We were able to visit with two young men who left lucrative jobs to start a publishing and media ministry in northeastern China. While they face many obstacles and left the comfort of their secular employment, they are rejoicing in the Lord for the opportunity to work for him. They are translating evangelistic and revival materials into Chinese and seeking to spread them like the “leaves of autumn.” Then there were other leaders from China who are training hundreds of young people to become workers for him and wanting to do even more. To date they have trained over seven hundred young people to be missionaries in China—praise the Lord that his work is going forward even in difficult mission fields! At Aenon Health Institute, where the meetings were held, they have a burden to minister to their brethren in China and thus the entire AYC (Agape Youth Camp) was translated into Chinese and videoed so that the messages could be sent into China to minister to the thousands there who wanted to come but were unable to attend. After finishing the first youth meetings, it was on to the Sabah on the island of Borneo, which is still a part of Malaysia but is separated from the mainland by the South China Sea. These youth meetings, while not translated into Chinese, had a good group of young people from several different surrounding countries wanting to grow in their knowledge and relationship with their Savior. During these meetings, the theme was “Fearless.” How can we be fearless for Christ in the world today? It is our hope and prayer that the many young people who attended these meetings will make bold and determined stands for the Master in their lives and go out into the harvest field to lead many others to “look unto him” and be saved! We thank you for your prayers and support that make it possible for us to minister to young and old alike!
