Letter from Mike: Uganda – October 2023

“In the professedly Christian world many turn away from the plain teachings of the Bible and build up a creed from human speculations and pleasing fables, and they point to their tower as a way to climb up to heaven. Men hang with admiration upon the lips of eloquence while it teaches that the transgressor shall not die, that salvation may be secured without obedience to the law of God.… The existing confusion of conflicting creeds and sects is fitly represented by the term “Babylon,” which … applies to the world-loving churches of the last days.” Patriarchs and Prophets, 124.

Many misled souls in Babylon long for a clearer understanding of Scripture. They want freedom from confusion and superstition, but they don’t know how to find it. We can reach them with the liberating truths of Scripture! We must let our light shine so people can understand that “God is not the author of confusion” and that He wants to give them peace amid the chaos of this world. 1 Corinthians 14:33.

Eunice grew up in Uganda in a staunch Roman Catholic home where the Bible was seldom read. The superstitions of African culture dominated her family life as well as the local culture. When she grew up, Eunice married a man who embraced the Full Gospel religion, a Pentecostal church that promoted many peculiar ideas, including speaking in unknown languages. In African culture, wives are required to follow the faith of the husband—but things were about to change for Eunice and her husband Elias!

Evangelist Edward came to conduct a campaign in Eunice and Elias’s town, and in preparation, a team of Bible workers spread over the community inviting everyone they could. Elias was not home when the team visited Eunice and invited her to the meetings. Eunice immediately said “no” in her mind. “I am so spiritually confused that I am not going to become more muddled by listening to more religious ideas,” she told herself.

The next day, however, several of her friends came by and urged her to come with them to the meeting. Eunice relented, and she was pleasantly surprised by the soft, soothing music and overall orderliness of the event. By the end of the convincing message, Eunice had determined to bring her husband the next night.

Eunice and Elias attended every night of the meetings. As they listened to the teachings from the Word of God they went from confusion to clarity, from darkness to light! The sharp sword of truth cut through the errors and superstitions that had muddled their thinking. Eunice, Elias, and their children spent time studying all the doctrines of Seventh-day Adventist Church and were baptized along with 134 others who came through all the meetings!

Please pray for the work in the Southwestern Uganda Field. Through your gifts, Evangelist Edward is holding evangelistic series every two months and is winning scores of souls to God’s clear truth. Many churches have been raised up that have no place to worship besides under a tree. Funds are needed to help them roof their churches and keep them out of the rain. If you are impressed to help with this work, mark your gifts “Uganda Evangelism” or “Uganda Churches.”

Yours in bringing clarity to confused souls!
